FAQs

Welcome to our Frequently Asked Questions section.

Q. Why do the batteries state they are maintenance free, yet they require testing?

A. Maintenance free indicates that the battery is a sealed unit and does not require topping up with distilled water. Due to the unit being sealed there are no visible indications as to the internal condition of the battery. Testing can confirm the condition and expected standby time of your equipment. (More).

Q. Why do I need batteries as part of my equipment when the 240v ac supply is maintained to the building?

A. Firstly, the batteries act as a capacitor bank for any momentary peaks and troughs on the rectifier output. If a rectifier fails any spike caused will be absorbed by the battery, which will stop any damage to sensitive equipment connected. Secondly, if the local mains supply to the Power Rack fails, or the Rack itself fails, the Generator or UPSs supporting the building would be of no use to the particular piece of equipment. Under such circumstances a local battery would be needed.

Q. What conditions are required for a battery to give the maximum capacity for which it was designed?

A. The battery should be stored in a well-ventilated cabinet or on an external rack. These should be clear of any objects that will hamper the ventilation. The ideal ambient temperature should be between 20°C & 22°C and the room should have constant air movement provided by air conditioning. The battery should be float charged at 54.45V DC. Any dramatic deviance from this can cause long lasting damage to the cell. (More).
